Bowen Named Partner of Firm

The Jonesboro law firm of Womack Phelps Puryear Mayfield & McNeil, P.A. is pleased to announce that Attorney Wade Bowen has been named a partner of the firm as of January 2018.  After earning a Juris Doctor in 2010, and a Masters of Taxation degree in 2011, Wade joined the firm as a valued associate and our clients have benefitted from his expertise in tax law ever since.  Today, his legal practice areas include business and corporate law, taxation law, and estate and wealth planning to name a few.  Wade is an active member of Rotary of Jonesboro, as well as Jonesboro Young Professionals Network.

WOMACK PHELPS OBTAINS DISMISSAL OF VEIL PIERCING CASE

WOMACK PHELPS successfully defended their clients in the case of Fulmer et al. v. Hurt et al. before the Arkansas Court of Appeals. The plaintiffs obtained a judgment against a limited liability company in another suit and then sought to enforce the judgment against the members of the LLC. The plaintiffs’ effort to pierce the veil of the LLC to force the individual members to pay for the judgment was dismissed on summary judgment grounds. The Arkansas Court of Appeals unanimously affirmed the judgment in favor of the defendants in an opinion delivered on March 1, 2017. The Court maintained that a plaintiff in a veil piercing effort must demonstrate fraud, illegal conduct or abuse of an entity for the specific purpose of injuring a party.
